Pulling in Misc. Items for History Study
Written by admin on August 27th, 2007I just love adding miscellaneous items to enhance whatever we are studying. When I say “miscellaneous,” I mean little treats or surprises that the whole family can enjoy together.
My 11th grader is studying some American history right now. We are studying our own state a bit more in depth and also studying some American writers - Edgar Allan Poe at the present time. Because of the time frame, the Civil War is coming into play as well.
I found a wonderful VHS tape called Winslow Homer : An American Original. It’s a touching story of how the Civil War impacted Winslow Homer and others who had family involved in the war. It was not an easy time for anyone.

I have currently ordered more tapes in this series. The study of art somehow adds a bit of comfort or ease to an otherwise difficult study. Edgar Allan Poe certainly had his share of sorrows, and the Civil War is a chapter unto itself when it comes to sorrow and choices and circumstances in this country.
Thought you might want to know about this very fine tape.
