It all began when I thought I saw some kind of hair accessories on the floor. I took a closer look. Gasp! It was mushrooms — and they were growing up through my bathroom floor.

Yes, the floor looks awful, but this floor tile was actually a very old, very pretty pattern. I sort of liked it. That is, until mushrooms started to grow up through it.
And, actually, I had noticed that my bathroom shelf had begun to lean.
This was the beginning of a huge project. What we found was rotten wood. It’s a wonder the floor even held up the old cast iron tub in there.

The wood looks dark because it is old, but also it is rotting and damp. The children look on in amazement as their daddy shows off his skills.

Before long, he’s putting in new wood to support the new floor. He has repaired the leak that was hidden behind old walls and under an old floor.

I am amazed. And the children are acting silly. Daddy’s nerves are barely intact.

Finally, we are almost done.

I LOVE my new bathroom, the new floor tile, and my husband.

Living in an old house takes some work and lots of love and patience. Our house was built in 1921 and I absolutely love it. I have been keeping up with some of the home adventures of Hannah over at Cultivating Home. Her house is REALLY old.
Hope you enjoyed some pictures from our bathroom redo!
