First Bee of the Season!

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

I saw it!  I know spring is not too far away.

I worked outside just a little while this morning before going to work later this afternoon.  I had only about 30 minutes in the garden, but that goes a long way in making me happy.  :)

Wal-Mart had some very good deals on bulbs.  These pots were about 6 dollars apiece and each one had quite a few bulbs in them.  I’ll keep the containers which will be very nice for sharing divided perennials with friends.

I planted the bulbs today in my recently redesigned bed.  There’s a lot of purple, blue, and pink in this bed now.  (And probably a lot of other stuff I don’t remember!)

I also hung up a little plaque that I found at the Dollar Tree.  It was meant to hang from a stand stuck in the ground, but it went on a large S-hook and is hanging at my front arbor to greet visitors.

I took a bit of time to look through my seed collection.  These seeds won’t last forever, so I am going to try and plant most of them outside this year and see what I get, including these morning glory seeds given to me by a friend.

The dollar tree also had seed packets for 10 cents a piece.  I got several packs of cosmos which I plan to intersperse between all the things planted in bed #1.  :)

Can’t wait to see it all in bloom.

I am so happy to be home this evening.  Be it ever so humble, there’s NO place like home.

Happy Monday

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

I’m a bit tired this Monday morning, but you know that yucky cold stuff that’s going around?  Well, my daughter and I both have it.  I have it not so bad, but she has it pretty bad.  She is resting comfortably on the couch right now after a dose of Tylenol through the night to bring her fever down.

I am hopeful that her virus will not turn into one of the very bad cases I have heard of lately.  On a bright note, however, the garden looks more and more lively every day!  The rosemary is absolutely covered in blooms.  (The above picture is from yesterday.)  More blooms than I’ve ever seen on it.  My princess of the universe can’t go outside today, but we do have our seedlings inside to admire, and boy are they growing!

Here is a picture from this morning…

They are growing faster than I imagined they would.  Anticipating plants for the garden here!

I brought home some wonderful bread last night.  It is an asiago cheese bread made by La Farm Bakery.  They make the most amazing breads and sweets.  I have toured their bakery in the past and let me tell you, they’ve got wonderful stuff!

I could eat an entire loaf, but I try to limit myself to one or two (or three or four) pieces dipped in olive oil.  My daughter loves it too!

One more picture to show you.  Have you ever seen a slug trail?  I went outside and noted one right after the sun came up good.  Wonder where the slug was?  Slugs leave a shiny, whitish trail.

And one last link to share.  We updated our butterfly page at The Healthy Homeschool.

Have a great Monday!
