Frugal Shopping and Frugal Cooking
Written by admin on March 8th, 2008I have been busy this morning putting food in the freezer. My internet buddies know that we eat a lot of venison here, so ground chuck is a treat for us. Yesterday Food Lion had ground chuck on sale for 1.32 a pound. So I bought 12 pounds.

I systematically put seasoned burgers into the freezer for inexpensive, easy cooking later on. The meat was put in a large pan to be seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic powder and mixed well.

I use a small stainless steel lid to cut the flattened ground meat into a perfect circle.

This system saves me the time and effort of having to make patties by hand. The patties are stacked between little pieces of wax paper, put into a freezer bag, labeled, and into the freezer they go.

I froze three bags of 12 each for 36 burgers. That’s 44 cents a burger.
The more I save, the more debt we can pay off and the more I can be home.

That brings back memories! My mom did the same thing with ground beef when I was a kid. I loved helping make the patties.
It’s funny how simple memories like those can stay with us forever.

Tanya, that’s true! My children hover around me while I’m doing stuff like this, so I’m sure they’ll have memories of it.
Groceries are getting so expensive, I am trying to do things like this more and more.
