Garden Plans

More sights from the garden today and some thoughts about garden plans.

These pale blue iris are so pretty.  These were transplanted from a friend’s garden before she moved, so I have a bit of her here.  My husband’s favorite flower is the iris, but he loves the darker purple ones.

I love to see garden plans brought to life.  Ever see a true Japanese garden and the order there?  There’s so much peace and yet one is aware of the discipline it takes to keep it so.  Then there’s The Secret Garden, where a garden’s wonderful bones and bountiful perennials can still be uncovered after years of neglect.  And then, I love to see cottage-type gardens lush with native flowers.  The plan is based on preservation and low maintenance, even if the garden itself may seem a bit disorderly.

Roses brought in from the garden today make a pretty office bouquet.

My garden is the result of about half a cup of planning, a quarter cup accident, and a quarter cup of following what the yard and house and road allowed — in other words, not trying to go contrary to what would actually “work.”

This little “volunteer” cedar tree is so sweet.  Perhaps we’ll replant it on the property border.

I like to keep the garden paths clean.  The main skeleton of the garden is respected, but I do not panic if something not planted sprouts and takes up residence somewhere.  It may get pulled out.  It may not.  Sometime nature does better than I do.

Perhaps we should live life that way – heeding the law and spirit by which we should live, but not coming unglued when something unplanned appears in our lives and must be dealt with.

The fun little patio lights call to me, “come out and sit on the porch for awhile this evening and smell the roses and listen to nature.”

Where there was recently a mass of purple blooms, there’s now a mass of seeds waiting to age, fall to the ground and make more money plants.

God’s creation is so pretty.  I love to look at the bright green money plant seeds in the sun.  They remain pretty as they dry and turn to a papery silver-white.

The money plants were also a gift from a friend’s garden.  So there’s a bit of her, too, in the garden and I think of her every time I see the money plants.  Life is like the garden in that respect, as in so many others.  Part of who we are is just a patchwork of ideas and teachings from parents, brothers, sisters, children, and friends.

I did manage to get the rhubarb all planted and watered good today.  I hope it’ll settle in and be happy for years to come.

While walking around the house, I noticed a little piece of something black in the driveway. Upon close inspection, I could easily see it was a congregation of tiny ants, very busy at something.

Go to the ant…; consider her ways and be wise:

Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

Provideth her meat in the summer and gathereth her food in the harvest.  Proverbs 6:6-8
