A Family Affair
Written by admin on May 20th, 2008I was on the road today, traveling across a couple of counties with my mom and my aunt to visit, in relation to me, a first cousin once removed. He shared so many family stories. You know how some people just seem to retain everything?? He also had some awesome family photographs.

Isn’t this wonderful? The couple on the far left of the porch are my great-grandfather and great-grandmother. He’s holding their first boy, who ended up dying in the great flu epidemic in 1918. She’s holding their first girl. She had in total two girls and six boys. This picture had to have been from around 1902. The couple right in the center, behind the children in front of the steps are my great-great-grandfather and great-great-grandmother.
It was most interesting to hear family stories. Some of these people were highly stern and had high expectations of these young children.

This picture is of an old school. One of my favorite great-aunts is in this picture. She stands second from left, in the front, next to the school master. He looks a bit severe, no? She was so sweet, and she had the most beautifu head of hair. Her hair stayed dark like this for years and years.
It was quite a day! I love hearing from those with wisdom of years.

Thanks, Robin! I, too, love getting my hands on an old family photograph. I didn’t even know this one existed! So glad to have copy of it now.
