We Found the Kittens!

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

I know I posted awhile back about Fluffy’s kittens, and I’ve even had some readers ask about them.  We knew that Fluffy moved them, and we felt like she was still nursing them — where ever they were, but we had no idea really about their safety or how many survived.  Well, today I was walking around the house and noted movement under a bunch of thick-growing plants.  I know the picture is blurry, but I just do not want to put a flash in their little faces.  I’ll try to get better pictures tomorrow in the full sun.  Here they are, all three kittens!

I really enjoyed my lunch date today.  Wonderful conversation, and I think that was the BEST cheeseburger I have ever had.  Yum.  :)

After leaving my friend’s house, I went by Goodwill and found a couple of sheets that I want simply for the fabric.  I think they will make great tiered skirts.  I might make matching skirts for myself and Princess of the Universe!  I better do that while she’s still willing to dress like me, right?!

Isn’t that fabric beautiful?

I also found Princess of the Universe a 100% linen dress that will be so cute with some little sandals.

As far as gardening, you know I couldn’t help myself when I saw Double Knockout roses for just 9.99 each?  Here’s a row of them in my garden.  In case you haven’t tried Knockouts, they are really hardy and disease resistant and they just bloom and bloom all season.

I also found some very beautiful flame purple phlox.  With summer coming on, I need something that will bloom heartily.

While in the garden, Princess of the Universe — as usual — found some living thing that she just had to hold and talk to and show her brothers.

Yes, a huge slug, and yes I made her wash her hands when she came in.  How can she stand having that slug trail on her hand?  :)

Last of all, remember the office frame that I said I could replace the print in if I wanted a slight change of decor?  Well, I found a new print today, one that really appeals to me and fits right in with the birds and roses theme in the office, and it’s still in the wrapper.  Only $1.29.

Italy.  I love it.

A Good Rain

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

A good rain does wonders for the garden.  Is there anything more simply wonderful than sleeping the night away with rain on a tin roof the background noise of our dreams, and then waking to a sunny garden, petals all covered in glistening drops?

I woke to such a garden this morning.  I love the garden as a whole, but I think it’s my admiration for each little individual flower that keeps me filled with wonder.

This wild onion bloom looks other-worldy.  I can’t bear to pull it.  I won’t pull it.  I think it has value, even in the midst of my Jupiter’s beard and tall phlox.

The tiny lavender blooms on the lambs ear are starting to show.

Today I am invited to lunch with a dear friend.  I can hardly wait to catch up and talk plants and homeschooling (yes, she homeschools) and just everything.  I always like to hear her perspective on things.

I’ll hopefully have some more pictures later.  I’m planning a plant-shopping trip today and a thrift store stop after lunch with my friend.
