Transitions

Transitions can be hard, can’t they?  I have one every week, so I should know.  

Part of the week I am free as a bird, high in a pretty tree, planning homeschool lessons and just loving everything.

Like our beautiful trip this week to Duke Homestead with our homeschool group.  What a gorgeous day we had!  I thoroughly enjoyed myself.  The children (above) are learning about archaeology.

Don’t you love how stuffed animals are permitted on homeschool field trips?  I think it’s a fine thing indeed.

We learned about food preservation in the 1800s.

And what foods are native to America and what foods were introduced by the Europeans.

One day this week I was able to get in my vegetable garden and do the tremendous amount of cleaning up I’ve been wanting to do (and saying I’d do).  This gallon bag of green beans is testament to a rewarding afternoon in the garden.

On a trip to Sam’s Club I found this amazing jacket made by Green Tea.  It’s so me!  I’ve been trying not to splurge, trying to save, but this was only 16 dollars, so I bought it.  I know by the time I’ve worn it out, it will have been money well spent.

One day, Princess of the Universe and I went to an antique store where we looked at lots of old things.  It tied in well to our visit to Duke Homestead this week to learn about old things.

It’s been a great week.

Now comes the part about transitions.  Tomorrow is a work day.  I have to fly down from my happy perch and land in my work chair and make myself transcribe for 8 hours.  It’s important to my family that I do this.  In fact, my current job is a vital part of our current home (and homeschooling) situation.  So I must do my work with joy.

I try to look at the positives of working.  It’s a time of reflection for me, sitting and thinking.  Every single day I learn something new that I can share with my children.  New words.  Little bits of Latin.  And even reminders to teach my children about words that people often get mixed up.  For example, is it effect or affect?

Tomorrow morning I’ll be putting my work hat on.  Good thing lesson plans are written out!
