Walking
By Lynn, on November 28th, 2008
Walking.
Briskly.
Alone.
Chases away Old Man Blues.
Overtakes vague thoughts that wandered off while I was sitting still.
Leads me, step by step by step, to clearer thoughts.
Walking heals.

I love to walk. I walk for 30 minutes, hard, during my lunch break. It’s one of the simplest, most peaceful, most healthful forms of exercise.
It’s free. You can meditate while you walk. You can plan and think while you walk. Or you can let your mind float free and just soak up the sights around you.
Do you walk?

About Lynn
I am the mother of four delightful children: a 23-year-old son, a 20-year-old son, a 17-year-old son, and a bright and bubbly 13-year-old daughter. I share an apartment home with my 17-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter. My little home on the internet is called Rose Cottage because of my love for gardening, roses, and all things romantic and Victorian. Welcome.
I'm a North Carolina girl and I love sharing North Carolina links and information. I do medical transcription from home. My hobbies include making sweet little dolls from clay who are named and have their own stories to tell. I also make old-fashioned brooches. These are for sale in my Etsy shop.
For 13 years continuously, I homeschooled some or all of our four children, but the time came that our homeschool had to be closed. It was the end of a beautiful chapter in my life. I will always be a strong supporter of homeschooling and I will continue to review books and maintain my homeschool website, The Healthy Homeschool.

My Symphony
To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich; to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly; to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart; to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never. In a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common. This is to be my symphony.

Yup!
Yes, I sure do!
I love walking outside…like you, I love taking in nature and all the unexpected little treasures!
But it’s so cold and damp right now, I’ve been sauntering on my treadmill.. about 35 minutes a day.
When I don’t do it…I feel a bit crabby… now that I’m in my mid-40′s, I do it for different reasons….maintaining weight and overall healthcare…
Happy Day Lynn!

sometimes.
I like your shoes!
Not like I should – and I have the time. That’s it – you’ve inspired me to take time for myself and do some walking. Especially since I love the cold and I’m home pretty much every afternoon by two.
Thank you, Lynn!!
I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving…..
I use to walk but fell about eight years ago and my knee has not been right since.
Therefore, if I walk a lot I am in a great deal of pain during the night…
However, I do spend an hour or more each morning taking care of the donkeys and that is my time to think and pray..

Michele, how do you manage with the cold! You are tough, I know! The treadmill is the perfect alternative. Can you see your birdfeeders from where you work out?
Thanks, Melinda!
Liane, I have to make myself to care of me.
Louise, so sorry to hear about that. My right knee bothers me, and I wonder sometimes if I am helping it or making it worse, but I keep going. It may be unbearable one of these days, but so far I manage. Taking care of animals is exercise AND therapeutic.

I always love to walk, but sadly I usually let everything else get in the way. When I am in one of walking phases, I can’t imagine how I go along everyday without walking…I always feel so good. But, there are also phases like the one I’m in now, where I feel like I can’t find the time (or the energy) to just do it. It sounds crazy, I know…I’ll never understand myself. Good for you for sticking with it! Hopefully I’ll stick with it on a more continuous basis one of these days because it is such a good form of exercise…from the inside out!
