I am ready to get my house cleaned up. And out. And ready to eat healthy again. (Too many chocolates, dip, crackers, cider, cake, turkey, dressing… But ooooh it was good!)

Yes, it was SO MUCH FUN, but I’m ready to make some new changes with The New Year. I am working on my word.
My word for 2009.
Yes, there’s the standard New Year’s resolution, but some of my on-line friends have started this tradition of coming up with a word for the new year. It will not just be A word. It will be YOUR word. It will represent the transformation you want to happen in YOUR life throughout 2009.
Clarity? Hmmmm. No. Well maybe.
Worth? Maybe.
Value? Maybe.
I’m not sure yet. I’m still thinking. I just know that I feel cluttered and spent sometimes and I’m not sure that I am always making the best use of my time and resources.

This is a picture of my holiday/packaging cabinet AFTER I cleaned it out last night. It is an old wardrobe with a beautiful lock and key where all of my holiday and packaging materials are kept. Doesn’t it look great?
Yeah. If only I’d done it before the holidays!

I could have used some of the things in there. Things that were hidden. How bad was it? It was this bad…

All of that is either trash, soon to be thrift store donations, or things that didn’t belong there that had gotten stuffed into this armoir over time. How did it all fit in there? Well the door would barely close and I was always worried that the strain would break my pretty old key in the wardrobe door.
Somehow this represents what my word will be. I want my life to be clearer, more defined, easier to use. Does that make sense? I want to spend less on junk, more on things of value — things we really need. I want to avoid the pitfalls that come with getting caught up in things that may be good for others, but not good for us.
I’ll let you know my word for 2009. As soon as I know what it is.

How about the word streamlined.
That’s a good one! I’ll add it to the list of possibilities. Are you doing a word for 2009?
Thank you,
Lynn
I am ready to get things in order too. I love the idea of a word for my year. I gonna be thinking about that over the next few days!
Randi, I like it too. I usually have a list of resolutions, but somehow I really like the idea of one word to work with.

Your post reminded me of the character trait “Orderliness” in Bill Gaithard’s Character Sketches Vol 1. The four points were: 1)Organizing and utilizing my resources to their greatest efficiency. 2)Maintaining cleanliness and good grooming. 3) Removing items that hinder achievement(this could probably include items from the diet that would hinder health goals) and 4)Providing specific areas for different functions. Of course he has a nature story and a scripture story for each point. Anyways, I can relate to your post. I guess I should be praying about my own “word”.
Chris, that’s very interesting.
I feel that I’m really organized currently, but I keep adding to my list of stuff to organize. At some point my organization skills will become pointless — lol — because my time will be devoted entirely to organizing and not using any of the things that I have to keep organized! I’ll just be a robot.
The part about you said about removing objects that hinder achievement — that’s it!

I just realized something. “Joy” was my word last year, and the areas I struggle to have joy in are the areas I don’t keep orderly. I think I’m going to keep “Joy” and add “Orderliness” for my words in 2009!
You do seem really organized. Your blog encourages me to straighten my bookshelves and clean out my closet!
Good job friend!!! I wish you would come over and help me organize. I’m trying, but feel like I’m getting undone whenever I turn around. LOL
Merry Christmas!
Leslie
[...] just love little containers. The Christmas container is going into my storage armoir that I cleaned out not too long ago. I’ll use it for something pretty. The little tin [...]
