Time In The Garden

Today was stressful.  So I ended the day in the garden.  I had major errands to run — van inspection, medications to pick up, a book for school that had to be picked up.  The latter two errands took me on an out-of-town trip.  Basically, the day was “shot” as far as any productive school work that I could be directly involved in.  Some days are like that.

I was in the midst of a million thoughts when I finally arrived home.  Do I start supper?  Do I start cleaning house before I have to be at my work desk tomorrow?  Do we try to get some more formal lessons done than what they did on their own today?  Or do I just lie down and take a nap?!

I almost opted for the nap.  Almost.

But none of the above.  I put on my gardening overalls and went outside for half an hour to clear my mind.

Bed #4, after:

Old, dead growth from last year removed.  A layer of mulch placed.  By the end of February there’ll be daffodils all in this bed.  They usually bloom around the first week in March.

You know where I went today while I was out, right?

Goodwill.

And why not.  The day was consumed anyway, and believe me I needed a mental health break.  I found a Mario Lanza album in near-mint condition.   Hubby and I listened to it this evening while sitting and trying to hold our eyes open.  One of our old-age pasttimes.

Michele, I couldn’t help but think of you.  I found a lovely, medium-size bowl — old and shabby chic, to put my Q and A cards in!

  • Lynn, you’ve done a good job on that garden bed. Can you come over to my house, please? I’m so glad that someone else loves Mario Lanza! It’s been years since I’ve heard his music. I grew up in an Italian neighborhood and you could hear his music from open windows in the evening. You found a beautiful bowl also, so I’d say it was a successful trip.

  • Thanks, Suzanne. I love Lanza and Caruso and Pavarotti. Oh my, we just listen and listen and listen. My husband’s mother had many old albums that we were lucky enough to inherit. She had about six different version of Handel’s Messiah. She had Marion Anderson, Leontyne Price, all of the tenors mentioned above, Placido Domingo and on and on.

Wait until Lorena reads this. She grew up listening to opera. Her folks have seen Pavarotti live a couple of times. Her dad sings opera around the house. Domingo, of course, lives in Mexico, so is also a favorite.

It is very cool that you went ahead and gardened even when you were wiped out. I want to be more disciplined to do that.

    Good job and Good finds!
I love opera too..I’m the only one in my house who does however,
so I play it more when home alone.;-)

  • Ken, I love getting in my garden. It is so relaxing to me. It never feels like work. :)

    Thanks, Kate. :)

  • Dear Lynn,

What lovely treasures, and I’m glad you were able to get some gardening in-it’s so very therapeutic, isn’t it?

We love the old records, too. I even love the scratchy sounds the not-so-perfect ones make.

    Love,

I JUST LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the shabby chic bowl you found! It certainly would look nice here at my house!

If you have the chance…click on over to my blog… I have a lot of cute “thrifty” crafts for you and Princess to do! Ice candles, painted storage jars, felted sugar cookies, etc.

I’m looking forward to your gardens blooming soon…because that means mine are not too far behind!
