Seriously? Me?

I mean really.  Does this …

look like the face of someone who would stage a Venison Fashion Show right over hubby’s head?  While he’s trying to think?

Well.

Okay.  I did.  I’m sorry, okay?

But since you are here, would you mind telling me which look you like best?

The serious, fashionable, rich-woman-shopper look?

Or this home-bound, pioneer woman just waiting to make you some fresh-from-scratch biscuits?  (Just ignore the antlers.)

Hubby said if he saw something like this come through the woods he would definitely shoot.

I guess everyone must be wondering why this homeschooling family wasn’t doing something more CoNsTrUcTiVe, but the children and hubby were playing Scrabble during the fashion show.   I promise.  And the children did laugh uproariously over the fashion show, probably mostly at Papa Bear’s comments.

I asked Papa Bear if I could leave the deer like this and he said yes.  Isn’t he sweet?  But I would never do that.  I actually like the beautiful deer we have in North Carolina, although I hate to see so many get run over and cause accidents.  I think it’s wonderful that we can hunt them.  I love the meat they provide for our family, and hubby’s hunting them and cleaning them have provided some amazing science and nature lessons ( not to mention life lessons )  for the kids.  I guess I don’t even really mind having the deer heads on the walls.  They fit right into the den, a.k.a. the nature room.  I guess I should also say I love hubby for hunting and for the unbelievable venison sausage we have this year.

On a more serious note, we are happy to be home from our trip to test for our yellow belts in Karate, but it was such an educational and enriching experience, I’m so glad we went!  I haven’t really blogged about taking Karate because I felt like I’d be boasting, but I did want to let readers know where we’d be.

This picture was taken after testing but while our Sensei and the other judges were out of the room evaluating how we performed.   I am happy to say we met all the necessary criteria and moved on to our yellow belts!  We are so excited.

Let’s talk gardening, shall we?  What did you guys DO while I was gone?  I go away for a couple of days and does the twirling around in your gardens and singing welcome springtime songs totally cease?  It was nearly flip-flop weather when I left and I come back to predictions of a foot of snow and “treacherous weather.”  Even now there’s sleet falling outside.  Good granny.

Which brings us to another, even bigger question.

HOW is the tooth fairy expected to get here in weather like this?  Inquiring 10-year-old minds want to know.  I suppose things will work out somehow.

Lynn

As for the fashion show exstravaganza I vote for the Sopisticated Shopper to win “Top Design”! It is wonderful to laugh!:)
I have spent the day working on school work. Trying to get ahead.
We leave for a visit to Savannah on Thursday. I looked up their expected temps. In the 70′s while we’re there! :) Anyway, I wanted to invite you and your students! to revisit my website there are a ton of new things to investigate for the month of March.
Have an awesome day! I will be off of school celebrating Casmir Pulaski Day with a day of thrift store shopping!:)

  • Dear Lynn,

Hmm, they both look so chic, it’s hard to choose! My sister-in-law always dresses my brother’s deer head as Rudolph for Christmas, and makes him scary for Halloween. It’s always fun to see.

    Glad you’re back!

    Love,

  • My vote is for the adorable pioneer gal. She looks ready to tackle the world, but she has sparkle in her eye that says she is playful too! ;)

Congrats on your belts! My hubs and I take Karate with the kids too. They are brown belts, I am junior green. I took a break for about 6 months and I just went back last week. Boy, am I out of shape! I can’t wait until I am back up to speed!

  • Hi Lynn! I agree with you about hunting the deer- it’s such a waste that so many get hit by cars and it’s a slow painful death for them. It’s better to hunt them and use the meat.

I personally love the homespun deer- so stinking cute! Have a great day!

    They are both cute.
Hope all your flowering things survive this crazy storm.

  • You crack me up! You are so much fun! I hope to see you soon – maybe on Thur?!

    Love

Hi Lynn Love the very fashionable deer!! My youngest son is a avid hunter and on occasion the buck can be spotted wearing a camo hat. He also has a white lab that wears camo and glasses.
The snow was beautiful. We had the same scene here in Alabama. Beautiful birthday gift! I will admit it is time for warm and flowers!!
