Bunny Cage In Progress

Today is the day we begin working on the bunny cage.  Yesterday, Princess of the Universe and I went to Home Depot and looked through their remnant material.  We bought a bunch of pieces of wood for 51 cents each.

Do we have plans?  Well, we’ve looked at some different, cute little bunny houses in gardening magazines and we think we can certainly make something that will be acceptable.  After all, I built a potting bench a couple of years ago with scrap wood and no plan but what was in my own head, and it has worked out fine.

Yesterday was, for the most part, pretty and sunny.  A few random pictures and thoughts from a lovely day yesterday.

Ajuga and a mosaic stepping stone.

The lettuce bed.

Mustard greens

One of my late grandmother’s pins to dress up a dress

Honey bees.  One more reason to let dandelions grow.

Green bean.

Caterpillar.

Rustic gate, simple garden.

Termites emerging from an old piece of wood in the garden.

Do you know who’s happy about building a bunny cage?

Have a lovely Wednesday.  Or, as Pooh would say, Happy Winds-day!

A bunny cage is WAY better than a raised bed!

  • Dear Lynn,

Oh, I love the potting bench! Great job~I’ll have to wait a few years till I have a 15-year old son, but Tasha says she’ll help me build things with wood.

I’m so glad you let the bees have their goodies; I’d venture to guess that we wouldn’t have such a decline in bee populations if people didn’t poison their dandelions!

Good luck with the bunny house.

    Love,

    Marqueta

  • Hey, DooDad. Was good to see you today! Michaela is SOOOO happy to be getting a bunny, as you know. :)

Ken, I’m not sure. Raised beds are REALLY fun as well. ;)

Marqueta, I bet you have dandelions in your yard. And I bet YOU could build a potting bench. I did wait until all the children were big enough to give me time to work on it though. It’s hard when they’re little, but I think you have the best of it when they’re little like that!! I would love to have a bunch of little ones in the house again. :)

    Hi Lynn,
So happy about the bunny cage. Mark called last night to ask me what to feed two baby bunnies that a friend rescued. Tell Michaela that they were so tiny that he had one in each hand. It felt good to be needed by the big guy. The flowers are certainly blooming!!! Have a great night

  • Susan, it’s so good to hear from you. Michaela would LOVE those little bunnies. I’ll be sure and post pictures of the bunnies when we get them. And you will always be needed by your big guys!!

  • Hi Lynn!~Love your photos…we’ve had some lovely weather here too and we left the back slider open for the dog to go in and out…what we got were a few big Bumblebees!

I hope that Bunny House comes out fine for you!
    Hugs,
    Robin

  • You my friend are a woman of many talents! Love your photos. Enjoy the bunnies. :-)

    Blessings

  • Robin, isn’t it great to be able to let some fresh air in after wintertime? I love bumble bees. :)

Leslie, thanks! :) You know how they say the cobbler’s children don’t have any shoes? Well, the carpenter’s wife has to build her own bunny cage. ;)
