Grandma Wilson

Grandma Wilson?

Perhaps you think I am going to tell you about hubby’s mother.  Or hubby’s great-grandmother.  Are  you picturing a sweet little lady in a rocking chair?  I hope not, because I am talking about myself.

Princess of the Universe said to me today in her sweetest voice ever. “Awwww, you’re a grandma now.”

Folks, behind this door is my grandbaby.

Are you ready for this?

Are you sure?

Very sure?

I present to you, Coco.  She is very adorable, she is.  She came from Dubey’s Pet World in Burlington and she, from what I gathered, is supposed to be an English Spot bunny but apparently came in looking wild.  The other bunnies in the group looked like true English Spot bunnies, with spots and the stripe down their backs.  Princess of the Universe fell in love with this bunny immediately.

Coco came very close to being named Banana, but I made a serious grimace when that name was offered up and, fortunately, it worked.  She was almost Strawberry.  She was almost Hoppy.  Ultimately she was named Coco, and definitely spelled C-o-c-o because “cocoa” looks like it’s pronounced co-co-ah and that would not do.  This bunny is COCO for sure.

Just look at this little sweet bunny nose.

And these big brown eyes.  I wonder if Coco is looking at my beat-up hands (from building her cage) and feeling immense gratitude.  Somehow, I doubt.

Coco has certainly spawned some interesting conversations around the house today.  I expressed appropriate gratutide when I was informed that I was a grandma.

Hubby, on the other hand, was extremely nonchalant.  Princess of the Universe told him he was a grandpa now and that his new grandbaby’s name was Coco Marshmallow Wilson.  His immediate response was to share with us all that when he was little they raised rabbits for food.

Thank goodness everyone in the family can take a joke.  Princess of the Universe told Papa Bear that if he said something like that in front of Coco that she might poo on him.  I’ve just come back from checking on little Coco who is currently resting comfortably at The Bun E. Wabbit Inn.  I think there’ll be plenty of poo to go around.

On the bright side, Coco is SOOO cute and I will indeed have plenty of bunny droppings for the garden.  I’m actually a bit excited about that.  (Coco seems to be too. )  On the less bright side, wasn’t it me who said about two years ago, after Mr. Nibbles the Hamster died, that we would never get another critter that had to live in a cage?

The things we do for love.

Lynn

PS – I almost forgot.  They were out of dwarf bunnies, which is what we wanted, so we only got this one bunny.  They’ll be getting more dwarfs in soon and we can breed this one with a dwarf.  Won’t that be fun?  Would you like a bunny?

  • Congratulations …
I love the bunny, she is just too cute.
    I also love the name.

My daughter raised bunnies for a few years…
    She had mimi lops…
I miss having bunnies, the last one
Nike (belonged to my son) died on mother’s day last year.
Nike was around 12 years old and loved very much..

    Have fun….

  • Oh Lynn, Coco is perfect! And of course I see you as a sweet little lady in a rocking chair! Resting from building a rabbit hutch, of course.

I’m almost tempted to get a rabbit myself, except that the last one we had liked to try removing toddler fingers.

    Love,

    Marqueta

  • Oh, Congrats on your new grandbunny! She is so adorable. We had a bunny, Cuddles, when the kids were small. I’m sure there will be many adventures to come! Have a wonderful weekend!

  • Too cute! Sounds like y’all are having fun. You are much to young to be a grandma though!!!

Hope to see you on Sunday!

    Love
    Leslie

  • Louise, wow 12 years old! I know Nike was a special bunny. So far we are all still in love with Coco. She’s so different from the hamsters and gerbils we have had. I’m not knocking them, but she’s just so much like an old storybook — Peter Rabbit, I guess — when I see her, I want to hold her. ;)

Marqueta, I wonder if bunnies’ temperaments vary based on breed? I’ve heard before that bunnies don’t make the best pets, but Coco seems very sweet.

Liane, yes, I sense great adventures to come. She seems to want to explore, and I’m just waiting for the first time she gets “lost” in the house.

Leslie, I feel old enough to be a great-great-grandmother after building that cage!! :) I’m tired, but we are just loving little Coco Marshmallow.

We sure laughed when we saw Grandpa Thomas’s response. Hmmmm, we are having trouble with “bunnies” in our garden, they are not nearly as cute and they are huge and would make a lovely dinner! Tell Grandpa Thomas to come to Iowa for some bunny dinner! Really, tell Miss Priss that her bunny is sweet.
