Yesterday my sister and my mom and I got together and went thrift shopping. I guess the skeleton’s out of the closet now and you realize it’s a family addiction and we all readily enable each other whenever possible.
I fell instantly in love with these dishes and the vintage-y table cloth. The dishes made themselves right at home, got acquainted with our dishwasher and replaced some old dishes that I’ve been wanting to say BYE to. The tablecloth… Well I love tablecloths.

How could I say NO?

The tablecloth got along wonderfully with the lavender laundry detergent and lavender dryer sheet.
I’ve decided to share with you a MAJOR cleaning breakthrough. It’s the super-cleaner’s way to mop.

I take two cleaning rags out and wet each one with hot water and then add a squirt of dishwashing liquid to each one. I wring them out and put one under each foot. I then skate around my kitchen.

They say housework done properly can kill you. So you can quit worrying about me.

Ha ha and oh my! I’ve taken to doing the same sort of floor cleaning method lately with micro clothes because our dog is shedding like CRAZY! My feet make much better swifferers.
LOVE LOVE LOVE your dishes!!! Cannot believe they were in a THRIFT store. I can see you smile each time you use them–they will be a joy to wash.
I noticed too the special plate. My daughter and I have a tea cup each from that set. There is a book to go along with it. I LOVE the scenes and the detail in the dishes and the book.
Hey, Love the dishes, and the idea for cleaning the floor. I do this all the time. Tell your mom and Andee hey.
Lynn,
What absolutely beautiful dishes! I can just imagine how wonderfully inviting your meals will be. I just love the idea of giving a new life to something someone else has let go of.
I am currently working on a dressing table for my niece. It’s past life was a small desk with syickers!($8.00) Sandpaper,a artsy paint finish, different hardware and a mirror and the transformation is complete!
PS. Glidden Paint is giving a free quart of paint. Go to glidden.com.
I got mine today. I going to use it for the dollhouse.
Have an fabulous Friday!
Hannah, all I can say is great minds think alike.
And I think it’s great exercise!
Becky, I’m so glad you mentioned the special plate. I actually found two of them. Fall and winter, I think they are. I’m planning to hang them up, but haven’t decided where yet. I don’t know much about them. I had no idea there were cups and a book. I’ll have to investigate on line and see what the history is. Thanks so much!
Vicki, hey! Thank you for leaving a comment. I’ve been meaning to call you ALL week. It’s crazy here. Thank you so much for letting me know about Clinton. Sad. He did a lot of others and was very kind to me when we talked and he got me in contact with his son about the family history. On another note, I’m so glad I’m not the only one in the family who mops this way.
Diane M, thanks for the tip about the paint. I saw something on a blog about that as well, but missed what company it was. I’ll check that out. I would love to see your completed dressing table!
Lynn
I sure enjoy thrift shopping as well. It is a wonderful way to provide beautiful accents to your home.
Also, I have washed my kitchen floor just that way – two old cloth diapers under each foot!
I am enjoying your blog.
Warm wishes,
Tonya
First things first… I LOVE THE DISHES!!!
Great choice!
Secondly… I think your dust mopping ordeal is a hoot! Plus, imagine the calories you’ll burn if you do “the twist!”
Have a great weekend!
Mich.
I love love love the dishes (and the tablecloth). You must really have an eye for things like that.
I might have to give the mopping method a try. Sounds much more fun than the regular way!
Very Beautiful Dishes Lynn…I would have bought them too!
Love your mopping method! Maybe I will give it a try!

Girl- you are A. Dor. A. Bul. seriously☺
and those dishes aren’t half bad either;)
Tonya, it really is a great way to provide. And it makes sense. Yesterday on The Story was a segment about Terri Thompson who takes thrifting to a whole new level.

Thank you for your kind words.
Michele, I thought of you!! I knew you would love them!
MamaHen, I should have an eye for things by now! LOL. This mopping is fun and it burns calories! You should see me stretchihg to mop under the table.
Carrie, thank you!
Diane, thank you for you very sweet words. I think you are adorable!
Check your email
What pretty dishes! I also am quite impressed with your floor-washing technique . . . .
Have a blessed weekend!
Dear Lynn,
Wow, great find on the dishes! I love red and white as much as I love blue and white and pink and green.:)
And the floor-washing method, hee hee hee! My mom can’t figure out why all my children think you dry the floor with your feet! I’ve been doing it that way ever since having a baby inside or on my hip made it hard to do it by hand.
Love,
Marqueta

Beautiful dishes and fantastic tablecloth…
Your have the best thrift shops in SC.
I went last week to a few near me and came
home empty handed…
Becky, thanks for the info.
Liane, thank you. Enjoyed hearing from you.
Marqueta, there’s a lot here that no one can figure out. LOL. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could sit down over tea?
Louise, we do have awesome thrift stores here in this area of NC especially. I am very fortunate to live in an area where plenty is donated. I donate regularly as well. I’m sorry you left empty-handed from your trip. Maybe next time.
Lynn
