Lesson Planning

Ahhh, the school bell is ringing this morning.  Yes, it is.  The past two weeks have been full of fun and relaxation, and plenty of food and family and friends, but it’s time to put our thinking caps on once again.  I don’t know about you, but mine feels a little loose this morning.  Uh…

As one of my brooches says, I believe that we’ll get back into our school groove.

The brooch pins are coming along nicely.  We are working, working, and Michaela has found her own little niche, but more about that later.  I’ll let her post when she’s ready.  In the meantime, I am working on something special for my Etsy shop for Valentine’s Day.  When the Etsy shop is ready, I’ll be sure and post a link here.

For lessons today, the following is on tap:

  • Ambleside Reading — will all be independent today, as I have to work
  • Practice harmonica
  • Math – Saxon next lesson
  • Work on further training Annie
  • Grammar will be copywork from Snowflake Bentley
  • Review Snowflake Bentley as we have a co-op built around that book this week
  • Science - Bug review sheet from a previous field trip
  • Nature Study – More copywork – write the definition of metamorphosis and then glue pictures of butterfly life cycle onto cardstock for notebook – label.  (The pictures are lovely pictures from our garden from this past summer.  I think Charlotte Mason would approve.)
  • Work on craft project
  • Practice sketching
  • Review Raphael prints for Ambleside art

I do hope you have a wonderful Monday.  Mondays are work days for me, and they are sort of hard for me — a real transition after being off with my family on Sundays.  But it is okay.  It really is.  I try my best every morning to smile out at the world and focus on everything that’s lovely and pure and of good report.  I believe God gives us grace when we really want to have a right spirit for His sake.

  • Dear Lynn,

We’re trying to put our thinking caps on here, too, but I think we lost them somewhere over the holidays. I’ll have to check in the Christmas boxes in the garage :) .

Thanks for posting Michaela’s schedule~Audrey had asked me what she does for school, so I’ll have to be sure to show her.

May the working hours fly quickly for you, and I hope it’s a little warmer today!

    Love,

    Marqueta

  • We are getting back to the books today too…but Mondays are tricky for us because we have a Gleaners run in the morning and then take my oldest swimming, so he is gone until between 11:30 am at the earliest and 1 pm if my hubby has errands and things to run…today he has an orthodontist appt, so it will be even later…then I also have a Keepers at Home meeting and our homeschool support group meeting, so not the best day to begin, but there it is…no excuses.
Love the brooches and I cannot wait to see your Valentine’s Surprise…I love surprises…makes me SO curious…
    Love,
    C~

  • We are now trying to gain the school momentum, after taken the month of December off!

It is not easy to come back full force, but I am sure we will manage :-)

    Blessings,

    maria

ps: I am also in the process of opening an etsy store…how fun to think in the same lines ;-)

  • Sounds like a full day, Lynn. Lots of variety…the spice of life! The idea of harmonica practice intrigues me! Does Michaela take lessons?

We started back today after three weeks off (except for math and reading), but Anna Rose has been highly motivated so it’s been a smooth transition. She was especially excited at being able to work on two written narrations because she loves to write.

Just curious…do you follow the Ambleside artist schedule? I mainly use it as reference and inspiration for our own studies which are heavily into art because of Anna Rose’s interests and talents. Have a blessed day!

  • Best of luck getting back into the rhythm of school! You have a lovely blog here! Happy New Year~

it sounds like michaela had a lovely school day planned……and you try to start out your week with a great attitude!

things started a little slow here this morning – we were half an hour late getting up to the schoolroom. oh well, at least no tardy slips have to be handed out here! mondays are our busy days. we need to be done with school at noon, as the boys have homeschool gym and swimming at the YMCA and then piano lessons in the afternoon. thankfully, tuesdays are a little quieter, so i hope to be a little more on top of things.

  • Oh my, it was a little challenging to get back to our lessons as well yesterday. On Sunday I had the forethought to search out our books and try to remember where we were exactly. I am glad to be back into a routine though. I was getting too used to sleeping later and eating too much. Your brooch is lovely, by the way. And I hope you are off to a good start to your week.

It is good to see we are not the only ones in the planning frame of mind. We feel EXACTLY the same way. Getting in the groove…

  • Marqueta, I hope you found your thinking caps!! I’m glad the schedule was useful to you.

Carrie, we have days like that too! Sigh. Thursdays are busy for us. I am making Valentine’s Day brooches and will post them as a surprise soon!

Maria, so fun! I will be on the look-out for your Etsy store! It is fun to be on the same page in things like this. A new adventure together.

Emily, I love the name Anna Rose. She sounds very artistic. Michaela does not take harmonica lessons, but she got a harmonica with a very easy-to-use book for Christmas and she has been faithfuly practicing in it.

Thanks Heather! Happy New Year to you too!

Connie, sounds like you have busy Mondays too! I hope you had a restful and productive Tuesday. I, too, am glad they don’t hand out tardy slips around here. We’d have a huge stack of them!

Jenn, same here! Hard to get started, but glad to be back on a schedule.

Ken, I noted that you are doing planning over there! It’s that time of year, isn’t it?

    Lynn

  • Totally can relate to the loose thinking cap! We’ve been off for a month and are trying to hit the ground running this week!

Loved seeing y’all today! I just LOVE co-op days!

    Hugs to you friend,
    Leslie

That is so well said,Lynn.. that is one of my primary goals in this life as well. Praying that you have a lovely weekend coming up♥

  • Leslie, I enjoyed it too! It was a great co-op, once again. Thank you for all you do. Hugs.

Diane, thanks for your comment. I love hearing from you. I have to work every day to keep my spirit under control. It is truly one day at a time.
