I want that to be true about myself. It’s something my mother says in regards to herself, and I admire that about her. It’s part of being content: being able to take a little something and be happy with it.

When it comes to working at home, I think the most enormous challenge is staying at the desk. A desk that’s in your house. All day. All. Day. Long.
Some days, I have conversations with myself all day.
The curtains upstairs sure could stand to be washed.
Hey, you must stay at your desk.
Oh, the sun is so bright, it would be so nice to be in the garden.
Uh, you gotta stay at your desk.
That’s right! I got a new seed catalog in the mail yesterday! I want to go look at it.
Listen, hardhead, stay at your desk.
So, what I do is focus on some little thing that I can do on a break or during lunch that’ll make me happy. It’s a little something to look forward to, and then a little something to think on afterwards. On Saturday, I washed the vintage-looking soap dish in my kitchen window and put in a new bar of soap. Do you know I could smell that soap all the way to my little desk in my little office off my little kitchen? It made me happy. Lord, let me be happy with little things.

for you to leave a comment, but you can also e-mail me at lynn AT thehealthyhomeschool.com

South of France soap! Mmmm, I think I can smell it from here! What’s your favorite scent?
Those nagging voices can drive us to distraction sometimes, can’t they? It’s nice to have something to look forward to when you’re involved in a tedious task. I like to reward myself, too; lighting a candle or setting out some flowers just lifts my spirits and breaks the monotony, enabling me to complete my work with a spring in my step.
It truly is the “little things” that gladden our days. What a blessing for you to be able to do that because you’re working from your home.
Have a blessed day in the Lord!
Dear Lynn,
Ah, those little voices of discontent~ never to be silenced, only to be ignored
.
I’m pretty sure I can smell that soap here, too. Smells lovely!
I hope this workday has gone fast for you.
Love,
Marqueta
Your blog is beautiful and always a joy to visit. The small things are indeed my greatest source of joy. I don’t need a trip to Italy or a cruise to the Bahamas…I just need a pretty soap dish and beautiful scents of soap. I actually bought a cucumber/mint soap Saturday at World Market. 2 bars for $1.99 on sale. They give me more joy than a new outfit! I admire your talent. Sheila
I hope I get the pin so I won’t get pinched on St. Patrick’s Day. My father was born on St. Patrick’s Day. He has been with God for 4 years but I still think about getting him a St. Patty’s Day/Birthday card. It was always fun picking it out for him. Whoever gets it will be blessed by the positive energy you invested in making it! Sheila
Emily, I always enjoy hearing from you. I love to stop in Marshall’s when I get a chance (just two or three times a year) and look at their soaps. They have amazing soaps for less than the retail price. I don’t really have a favorite, but this bar is Honey, and it smells SOO good!
Marqueta, thank you so much for your wishes that my work day goes by quickly! I know you wish I didn’t have to work, and I appreciate that so much.
All I can say is “me too.”
Sheila, thank you so much for your comments! I’m going to put a comment under the pin post with your name on it so that I’ll have your name there. That is sweet about your dad, and I know you must miss him so much. I lost my dad a few years ago. He looked Irish (and Scottish) with his black hair and freckles!
St. Patrick’s Day has always been one of my favorites.
I think it’s evident in most of your blog postings that it doesn’t take much to make you happy, and that’s why I come here. I’m so comforted when reading about your sweet little joys in the midst of daily life and trials/struggles; you convict and inspire me to live more simply and more joyfully…this mirrors what I’ve been studying in Daily Bible Study so it must be something that I really need to apply to my life.
Loved the post!

Your blog is simply inviting! What a delight the small things are…those are the things that make such beautiful days. You’ve made me want to get some pretty soap for my kitchen!:)
