A Little Sunshine
By admin, on March 9th, 2010
It’s about 70 degrees here today and sunny. It is absolutely gorgeous! Michaela and I are going to spend one hour or so in the garden, preparing a couple of little spots for things that can be planted now.
- peas
- garlic
- spinach
- maybe more…

Thomas remains in the hospital, recovering, and I’ll be going to see him later. In the meantime (when it rains it pours) the washer is broken, so I will be going to a laundromat, BUT I have a lovely old book about a little Chinese American girl whose grandfather opens a laundromat. It’s called Soo Ling Finds a Way. I bought it about a year ago at the thrift store, but we’ve not read it yet. I think we’ll turn our trip into a tiny unit study. What else would a homeschooler do?
Have a lovely day!

About Lynn
I am the mother of four delightful children: a 23-year-old son, a 20-year-old son, a 17-year-old son, and a bright and bubbly 13-year-old daughter. I share an apartment home with my 17-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter. My little home on the internet is called Rose Cottage because of my love for gardening, roses, and all things romantic and Victorian. Welcome.
I'm a North Carolina girl and I love sharing North Carolina links and information. I do medical transcription from home. My hobbies include making sweet little dolls from clay who are named and have their own stories to tell. I also make old-fashioned brooches. These are for sale in my Etsy shop.
For 13 years continuously, I homeschooled some or all of our four children, but the time came that our homeschool had to be closed. It was the end of a beautiful chapter in my life. I will always be a strong supporter of homeschooling and I will continue to review books and maintain my homeschool website, The Healthy Homeschool.

My Symphony
To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich; to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly; to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart; to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never. In a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common. This is to be my symphony.

What a tease–I can just see a glimpse of your greenhouse. I can’t wait to see the finished house.
Praying for Thomas and you. No fun when Hubby is sick.
Hi Lynn,
I’m Amy in Ohio from FIAR. Just wanted you know that I’m praying for Thomas and your family. Wishing the speediest of recoveries to him!
hi lynn,
the morning in the garden sounds lovely!! it has been in the 40′s here & they claim 50′s are just ahead with some rain, so our snow is melting quickly. i actually smelled “spring” over the weekend!
great attitude regarding the laundromat. hope your washer gets fixed soon.
will continue to pray for thomas…….
It is hard to beat this beautiful Carolina weather. I’m sorry that your hubby is sick. You all are in our prayers.
Kim
One time we were so broke that we had to wash our clothes in our bathtub and hand them over the fence…when it rains!
Remember the story about Cordoroy the bear…he gets washed at the laundromat…you might want to reread that also! Every child loves the bear stories. Hope your prince charming is sprung from the hospital soon. It is hard on all of you I am sure. Tomatoes are $4.00 a lb. in Georgia right now-I think we all need to grow tomatoes in our “victory gardens” this year!
Becky, when I saw Thomas tonight, he promised me the greenhouse would be done soon. I know he wants SOOO much to be home. He’s sweet to even be talking about the greenhouse in the hospital, though, uh hum, I might have mentioned it one little teeny tiny time.
Amy, thank you so much! Big hugs!
Connie, thank you for your kind words about Thomas. Yesterday in the garden, I was raking some debris out and I must have hit a bit of mint coming out because the scent hit me, and that combined with the smell of fresh dirt was heavenly! It was indeed the smell of spring!
Kim, you are so right. I think that makes it all the harder for Thomas to be sitting in the hospital, but hopefully — oh so hopefully — he’ll get out tomorrow! Maybe this time his body will make a better go of it!
Sheila, wow, that’s hanging in there! We went a lot of years without a dryer, but washing in a tub — you get the award! Good for you! And Corduroy! Michaela said as soon as I mentioned the laundromat, “this reminds me of Corduroy,” but I actually had not pulled the book off the shelf. We’ll do that!
Thanks to all of you!
Hi Lynn, I will pray for your husband. My son owns an appliance repair business– if you want to email me, maybe he can help you diagnose your washing machine problem and tell you how to fix it.
I am so sorry about your husband and will be praying for him and you. I know how it is to have a very sick hubby, not easy. Clarice
Lynn,
I hope your hubby is much better…I am a bit out of the loop not being to check in so often…
Have you heard about paperback swap? It is a WONDERFUL site where you can swap books you have, but no longer need for books you really would like…I think I have swapped about 40 books so far…anyway, thought you might like to know….
Love,
C~
