Starting A Day

The mornings are still hot.  Even when we first wake up, we are met at the door with North Carolina’s humid, heavy summer air.  Still, I know that September mornings, and then the cooler mornings of October, are not far away.

The morning sun was causing my green tea to absolutely gleam in its little Japanese cup yesterday as I started the day.  I thought of school, how I live my life, household things that needed to be done, and getting some “Mother Culture” in for myself during my days off.

Time surely flies.  Yesterday is over now, and here I sit, this morning with a cup of coffee, wondering again how to order my day.

Tomorrow’s our first co-op of the school year.  I hope to do a school post soon about how we’ll use Beyond Five In A Row, Ambleside, and the other eclectic sorts of things I tend to do around here.

One thing I can tell you is that we have five huge “Charlottes” (writing spiders) now.  You can be sure that our science and nature journaling will begin with these amazing spiders.

Argiope aurantia with a cicada (if that tells you how big the spider is).

    hi lynn,
i love the coffee photo! and all of the spider photos are just amazing.

ah, yes, school is around the corner, isn’t it? the neighbor kids start next wednesday, so i plan on starting monday with my boys. probably just a couple hours each day until labor day. well, okay, another reason for starting slow is i need to get my act together!! i have all my curriculum and supplies, but i haven’t been in the schoolroom for weeks and need to get it all organized. i figure i can use the couple of school hours each day to do MY homework and get things ready. after all, i’m the principal, too, and i say it’s okay. so there.

enjoy the rest of the day, my friend.

  • Lynn, I, too, can’t wait for September and October to roll around. It is HOT! Before moving to Italy, we were told that the weather didn’t get any hotter than 80 degrees. Let’s just that’s not entirely accurate. ;)

The size of that spider scares me.

I emailed you a few months back but am not sure you got it so that’s why I’m messaging you on here. In the email I said I was pregnant. Well today we found out that we are going to have another little Boy! You know how special little boys are to me, so I am very happy! Just wanted to share our exciting news with you! xoxo

  • hi, lynn. your photos look so peaceful. i think starting a day in THAT light would make the whole waking-up thing a bit nicer!
just wanted to stop by and say “hi” since it’s saturday and i know you’ll be keyboarding away for work today. we are putting the finishing touches on a ten-year-old birthday party for the afternoon.
    blessings!

  • April, I hope you had fun with the party! That was really sweet of you to remember that I was working. The day flew by, in spite of work, and then Sunday and now Monday too. Whew! Where do the days go? :)

  • Jessamy, I am SO happy for you. I e-mailed you this morning. (I think it was this morning!) I did not get the first one.

  • Kisha, I’ve wondered what your weather is like there. It’s been blazing hot here. I’m ready for it to be cooler, and yet the summer was so hot and it was so hard to enjoy gardening, I feel like I’ve missed the whole gardening season! Maybe we’ll have a long, cool autumn to enjoy the yard. :)

  • Connie, the school year has arrived! We started light studies last week and will begin in earnest this week. I wish I had a room to devote to school! Ours is everywhere and all around. :D We did get Michaela’s room super cleaned up, though, and her desk is ready for her to really work.

  • We love our nature study here too and Charlotte Mason. You may wish to enter a little giveaway at the Tasha Tudor family website. I have info on my blog and a link , but you can go directly to their site to enter to win a hand cranked ice cream maker and her cookbook! I have made many of the receipts and they are delicious! Tasha Tudor Day is the 28th!

  • Suzanne, thank you so much. I enjoyed looking at your blog last night! I did not have a chance to comment because it was getting late, but will be back. I do appreciate your telling me about the contest. You must know how I love Tasha Tudor. :)

  • Dear Lynn,

What a beautiful way to start the day! And that’s one big spider! My husband says that the cicadas are pretty deafening in Missouri; I can’t wait!

    Love,

    Marqueta
