Dear Friends,
Happy TUESDAY! It is still cold here today in North Carolina. In fact, the heater seems to have been humming since I woke up this morning. But it keeps Lynn’s Rose Cottage nice and warm, and the fact is that all of my utilities are so much less than they were in the nearly 100-year-old farm house. I have been amazed at the difference! But I digress.
I will be out the door soon to attend a meeting, bowl a couple of games with some coworkers (!), have dinner out and then maybe coffee with a friend. My oh my, it’s a busy day! But I did want to share a recent very FUN find!

I told you about visiting a store called Rue 21? Well this short plaid coat was one of the items I came home with — a steal for 7 dollars! Yes. Just 7 dollars. I actually bought two of them, one for me and one for Michaela. She was needing a new coat for school, and I was looking for a short coat to add to my wardrobe. I was used to wearing long coats but I think with some of the new styles I have been trying, a shorter coat is really cute! I realize my blues don’t match (tights/coat) but oh well! Just keep your eyes on the coat and maybe you won’t notice.
In other news, I have been asked by a reader if I am working on anything. Headbands are sort of what I am playing around with these days at the art desk. I love having something different to do with my long hair, and these dainty headbands have been just the ticket for me. As I get older, I feel like the great big hippie-style flowers (the kind on the Scooby-Doo van) are not right for my hair, but something more understated works.

But what do YOU say? Do you think all fashions and styles work for all ages? Have we moved from that point in history where once a woman reached a certain point she was expected to fade into the background in drab and “age appropriate” clothing? You know that I am a great believer in modesty; however, I believe that modesty and fashion can go together. I believe that modesty and looking really good for your husband can go together. I believe that modesty and feeling great about your clothes and your style can go together.
Below are some headbands found out and about by people who make them and wear them!
Let’s talk age and headbands. Would a BIG BRIGHT FANCY SCOOBY-DOO-FLOWERED headband draw negative attention to an older face or just be fun for the wearer and the observer?
A few cool headbands from Flickr.
ENJOY THIS DAY! the moment. what we have right now. be the best you can be. with what you have. bloom where you are planted.

Dear Lynn,
I think that headbands look very demure, no matter what the age! As long as they’re not sliding off, or jabbing one in the temples, of course. . .
I’m glad you found a nice blue coat, and one for Michaela, too. Perfect for a not-too cold day!
Love,
Marqueta
Dear Marqueta, I think I feel the very same way about headbands.
And I always love the way you put things!
Love, Lynn
Hello
I’ve noticed your blog in the sidebar of ‘Tree Year’.
I’d been ‘following’ trees before that started – and am continuing – so I’ve offered to help link others who are doing the same.
The details are on my blog, Loose and Leafy.
http://looseandleafy.blogspot.com/
I’m making a list of people who are noting the progress of a particular tree (or group of trees, the plants and fungi associated with an individual tree . . . or . . . the definition of ‘tree following’ is fluid!)
If you would like to join in with this, let me know and I’ll add your blog to the list – with a link. Then, whenever you post about ‘your’ tree (either by leaving a note in the comments or by email) I’ll put an updated link there too.
It’s all very informal and I’m still working out the best way to do it but do let me know if you would like to take part.

Hi, Lucy! Thanks for offering! What you are doing sounds like it will be very useful.
Unfortunately, I moved unexpectedly right after I got started with the project, so I have been unable to follow the tree I had chosen. Best wishes with your project, though! Lynn
I think some styles can look good on us no matter what our age. I say dress in what makes us feel fabulous and don’t worry about what everyone else thinks.
Thanks, Lesa!
