Dressing up Black and White with Green

As Pooh Bear would say — and you know it already — Happy Winds-day!  But here it is nearly evening!  Where has the day gone?

I used to never wear green.  Ever.  I thought it was a color I could not wear because of my skin tone.  But I love green.  My old kitchen had green trim.  Michaela’s old room was the color of a Granny Smith apple.  Lately I have been trying to incorporate green in ways that won’t turn into huge fashion mistakes!  In other words, in a way that does not totally do me in when it comes to my appearance!

This new black and white dress is so much fun to brighten up with all sorts of colors!  As soon as I saw the green belt at G.W. Boutique, I new it was a keeper!

Vintage green (and sort of clashing, I might add) yardstick is always somewhere not too far from the craft desk.

blouse, Chaus, thrifted, 3.39
dress, breakin loose, thrifted, 4.29
tights, Scrap Exchange, 25 cents
shoes, Seychelles, thrifted, 4$
brooch, thrifted, likely vintage, a couple of dollars

A retro brooch that I have had for years comes out of the jewelry box to add yet more green to the outfit.

(While we are speaking of retro, I love old-looking lamp posts like these seen downtown.  :) Just felt like I needed to share that. )  Today’s outfit was fun for running errands in and comfortable for work (as long as I kicked the heels off when I came home).  I was quite pleased that several people noticed and said how much fun the outfit was!  The words “cool” and “nice” were used!  Ahh, nothing like clothes to make a girl happy, and I think that has been the case with women all the way back to Eve.  (Once she realized she was not covered, that is.)  ;)

Now, I would like to share with you how a bobby pin saved the day, yet again, but with nothing that had anything to do with hair!

My little Princess of the Universe did not have a lunch for school today so I told her I would bring one by.  Alas, when I arrived, my pen would not write on the waxy paper of the bag.  Her name really needed to BE on the bag as I am not the only mother who chooses this option on lots of days.  Wouldn’t you know it, the idea hit me to secure her name and little love-bird napkin note to the bag with a bobby pin.

Thank goodness for bobby pins!

I will leave you with this sweet magazine cover from 1959 — a mother and daughter admire a sweet bluebird.  The bluebird of happiness?

ENJOY this day.

  • Dear Lynn,

I love forest green; it’s the only green I can wear! Your belt is quite sweet, as is the brooch and your ruffly collar. :)

I think for sure that that is the bluebird of happiness on the pretty pink cover!

    Love,

    Marqueta

    • Dear Marqueta, I think I do better with deeper, darker greens as well! Especially around my face. Thanks so much! You would love these old magazines!! Love, Lynn

Morning Lynn – Trying to keep up with the blog better! Ha Ha! I love green and I am like you totally washed out by the lighter greens, but I love that belt! You look lovely, take care, and love the vintage pink themed cover! Now I really love pink! Especially these wonderful hot pinks. Have a joy-filled day – Terry
