I told you there was a new visitor (maybe two) at the feeders. The pretty little American goldfinch. They are not really uncommon — I have seen them undulating in air, through the little wild garden in the past, visiting the seed heads of plants. But they do seem to scare easily, and I have never really taken a good close-up picture of one.
This past week I was able to get a little closer to the feeder with the goldfinch sitting there, but he (?) still would not let me get as close as I wanted to be.
Look at the little chipping sparrow coming in for a landing!
Both the male and the female get grayer in winter, but this one seems to have a bit of a black cap and it’s pretty bright, so I wonder if it’s a male.
“Nothing like a good ol’ visit at the feeder!” exclaims Miss Chickadee.”
Stay tuned for pictures of lovely recent gifts from dear friends! (I love mail!)
