Let The Holiday Begin!

Yes, I am done stressing about school for right now because it totally went on the back burner this week.  Appointments.  Shopping.  Family traveling home.  Get-togethers.  I ask you, how can anyone do school work?  It’s time for our winter break here, and I intend to enjoy it.

Is all dead in winter?  I don’t think so.  The withered rose blooms on my rose bushes look so pretty to me.  There’s a sad sort of beauty about them: clearly dead or dying, yet with a touch of summer’s red-pink blush left.  Makes me think of our lives.  The brevity.  The uncertainty.  The beauty.  The joy.  We’d better enjoy one day at a time.

Oh yes.  Life, I think I said.  I pulled a bloom from a rose bush and this little mayfly-looking winged creature came out.  I felt bad for disturbing its resting place, but it flew away, hopefully to find another rosebud.

There’s life, all the time, when we look for it.

On other, less serious note, I’d advise you to visit homemadedollhouse.blogspot.com to read about our beautiful foreign doll and her current endeavor.

It is a worthwhile project, as I feel sure you’ll agree.

Around the net:  I stumbled across the most beautiful blog with the most adorable header yesterday.  Just take a look.  I made a screenshot because I figure that after winter this header will be gone.

You’ll have to visit Turkey Feathers yourself to see the snow falling across the header of this beautiful blog.

Enjoy this day.

Hacked

If you’ve tried to visit me today and my site would not come up, or if you are noticing odd characters on my blog, I was hacked today. It’s sad that anyone would do that, but it happens — frequently. This is the first time for me.

Good reasons to back up your files. Keep your wordpress and plug-ins updated. And remember to smile. It’s just a thing.

Six Quirky Un-Spectacular Things

Alana at Mommy Logic has tagged me. Yaaaaaaaaay. I have to tell you six quirky unspectacular things about me.

1. I was so skinny as a little girl that my mom had to buy me extra-slim clothes and then tighten the waist even further with a safety pin so they’d stay up. :)

2. Because I was so skinny in school, my sweet, first grade teacher called me (very lovingly) Sandra Lynn the Big Fat Hen.  She was the BEST teacher ever.

Here I am explaining how much easier overalls are than safety-pins.  Plus they make me look bigger, Mom.

3. I played the bass clarinet in high school.

4. I can turn my toes under and walk on them. Yes, it’s true.

5. I hated my freckles growing up, but I love them now.

6. I wanted 10 children, but hubby only wanted 2, so I did really good to get 4 before he totally glazed over.

NOW, I tag Kristina at Our Lifesong, Michele at My Blessings From Above, Amity at Home Basics, Cindi at Cindi’s Sewing, Andrea at Dean’s Academy, and Sandra at My Inspired Heart.

If you see your name, you’ve been tagged!  If you want to play along, you are invited to!!!  If you are too busy, then just have fun reading and know that I enjoy your blog.  :)

Here are the rules:

Link back to the person who tagged you
List the rules on your blog
Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of your own
Tag 6 bloggers to complete the meme.

Catching Up — An Award

Wow.  I’ve fallen way behind, but it’s time to catch up!  Sandra over at her beautiful blog (and she’s beautiful too) My Inspired Heart gave me an award.  Blush.

This award originated from Arte Y Pico, a blog which seems to be in Spanish.  I don’t speak or read Spanish (wish I did), so I put it into Google and had it translated.  It seems to be a blog that celebrates and recognizes creative contributions to the bloging community.  At least I hope that’s right because that’s what I got from it.  :)

I am going to post the rules and get on with choosing five other blogs that need this award.  I know some people get overwhelmed with awards, maybe because you do have to send it on to other people.  At any rate, if you see your blog here, you are certainly invited to put the award on your site, post the rules and pass it on.  If you don’t want to, just know that your blog is loved.

Emily at All Right Here for her wonderful scrapbook pages.

Michele at Hedging My Bets for her always-creative ideas for homeschooling a son!  (How many of us need that!!)

Linda, or StarLady, my FIAR friend who is teaching her children so much about art and creativity.  I think it’s wonderful!

Hannah, at Cultivating Home, because of the beautiful, old fashioned way in which she dresses her children and then helps other people know how to do it.

Patricia at Little Cabin in the Woods for her absolutely gorgeous, gorgeous pictures of her little girls and the beautiful mountain area around her.

Again, feel free to participate and pass it on, or just know your blog is loved.  Which ever is easier for you.  :)

Rules:1. Select five (5) other recipients for this award. You may select them for creativity, design, content or contributions to the blogging community & they can be in any language.
2. Name each nominee and link to his/her blog.
3. Show the award and include the name and link to his/her blog of whomever presented you with this award.
4. Link to the

Arte y Pico blog so everyone knows the origin of this award.
5. Post these rules
.

Thank you, Sandra!!
