Closing Up Shop at Sidetracked Vintage

Well, my shop will continue in other forms, but I have decided for sure to not renew my lease on the little red caboose that housed my vintage shop. Can you believe I have been a shop owner for almost two years!? It will be two years in September when my lease is up. I figured it would be very wise to go ahead and begin now to wrap my mind around shutting the doors for good. This gives me three months.

I have a private studio/workshop that has been offered to me to turn into a magical recreation of the shop. I am so excited about this! It will just take some time, hard work, and paint, to make the transition! <3

Phase I: remove the items from that shop that I know I want to keep for myself or for my private studio

Phase II: plan and advertise one or two large sales at the shop to cut down on what has to be moved and to say goodbye to my customers (for now)

Phase III: Empty out what is left, clean up, turn the keys in

HA HA — it is that simple!

Meanwhile, here are some recent pictures of my very pretty HAPPY PLACE. I have developed a following of customers. I am currently compiling a list of local folks (emails, phone numbers) who want to be on my mailing list for inventory updates and private sales and workshops.

There is always something new in the shop.
Looking into the shop from the front door. You can see back to the gypsy-esque curtain that closes to make a dressing room.
Twinkly lights. A handmade sign that says VINTAGE
Looking towards the front door from the back of the shop.

There are always plenty of vintage hats and purses.

Scarves galore — old and new.

Original artwork.
Mirror in the dressing room area.
I will miss sitting in my little “mouse hole” — a tiny office space with my coffee pot, my Pandora, and my antique cash drawer. My personal photos of me and Jason and my children. Snacks. My iPad. I have loved every minute of it.
This little wall unit kept the caboose unbelievably comfortable! It heats and cools. My HAPPY PLACE was always cozy. And it always smelled like lavender and lemon essential oil from where I regularly cleaned and wiped things down. And then I brewed coffee while working. Customers often said they loved the way it smelled.
Clothes fit for a night out, stage, theater, or just a casual outfit.

Books! Mostly vintage readers, primers, French this-and-that, a bit of the macabre, unusual garden books.

Old suitcases full of vintage linens.

Enjoy this day!

Clothes for Entertainers

One of the things I love about having my particular retail shop is meeting local performers (and some from as far away as New York!) who come in looking for clothes. Vintage is so popular.  Some customer simply wander in because of my VINTAGE sign.  I also have quite a few regulars who enjoy visiting and looking for treasures.

I love looking for things that are stage worthy, theatre ready, and unusual!  I truly have fun with clothes from the shop! People always ask, “Where did you get that?!” I love sharing that I shop for such things and pull them into Sidetracked for my customers.  They are welcomed to visit Sidetracked!  I love visiting with the customers!

Silky blue and white fringed shawl.
White Forest Black Dress

The lace pattern tights were originally a Christmas gift from my dear Jason! He knows I love clothes. Once I fell in love with them (and had 100 different people ask where I got them), I ordered some for the shop. I have put a link below where you can order them, or at least see them. They may look delicate, but they are sturdy (handled with care, of course). I have gotten two years from my first pair so far!  (Note the link below is my Amazon affiliate link.)

Lace Pattern Tights

This is a vintage lace dress that I came across recently. I did NOT purchase this, simply because the waist and sleeves looked too tight for anyone other than a stick. I don’t have time to alter it.
Oh, I nearly bought it, but that pleated waist and narrowing sleeves. Just look at the little glassy buttons!! Love!
Our potted sage has been getting lots of rain.
Do you like the sepia or the silvery edit?

Enjoy this day!

Bright Pink Vintage Fascinator and Black Velvet Cocktail Hat

As promised, here are two more hats.  I am sharing photos with you as they go into the Etsy shop. (I have to admit, again, photo editing apps are GREAT for softening middle-age wrinkles for promotional photos.)  😉

Enjoy this day, friends!

Vintage Hats at Etsy: Merrimac 100% Wool Vintage Hat

Over the next 24 hours, some new inventory will be going into my Etsy shop.  I thought you might want to see some of the hats recently brought into the collection at Sidetracked.  I will be sharing pictures as I add them to Etsy.

Meet the gray 100% wool Merrimac, made in the USA by Merrimac Hat Corp, probably 1940s or 1950s.  Please note, photos editing apps are great for reducing wrinkles!  😉

Separate netting comes with the hat.

I love the pretty star-shaped tassel.

Stay tuned for fascinators, headbands, and more!

Enjoy this day!

Sidetracked Vintage: Saturday in the Shop

My shop in the caboose, Sidetracked, is my happy place!  I love it so much!  When I get there I am very content.  I move things around, stand and stare at them, and think, hmmmmmmm, is that better?  Yes.  Then I move some more.  I talk to customers.  When it is slow, I take my essential oils — a few drops on wet papertowels, and wipe down the floors, the walls, the door knobs, everything like that, to keep it dust free and smelling so clean and dreamlike!  Yes, dreamlike.  It is a little boxcar space that is full of magic and wonder!  Lots of twinkly lights.  Lots of this and that.  Clothes.  Trinkets.  Antique purses and hats.  I have regular customers who tell me Sidetracked is their happy place as well!  Here are some photos from yesterday.

Vintage mannequin with vintage hat.
Cute wooden box (Who does not love the Eiffel Tower?) filled with old photos dating back to Civil War era.
Electric clock, fit for a princess, keeps perfect time.
Rustic shelf filled with little vintage booklets of all kinds. By the way, the wizard hat in the photo sold yesterday.
Little tree loaded with vintage ornaments.
A collection of snowmen dance around silver candlesticks.
More snowmen. The cow bell sold yesterday as well!
Vintage purses!
Unusual and vintage books. I am always adding, and they are always selling!
It took some thinking to get a dressing room in the caboose, but I did it. Every inch is filled with treasures.
Vintage flamingo, anyone?
Clothes line the racks. Lots of white, lace, cream, flowy-blowy. Denim jackets — the kind that are just right. Lots of vintage dresses.
Collection of prayer shawls from the estate of a Catholic lady born in 1905. The items that came from her estate were beautiful, clean, perfect, loved and cared for! Behind the shawls is a wall hanging I made.
Prayer shawls. Many have sold. They were finely made, some mohair, most from Europe.
My most recent canine visitor, Jet!

I wish you could come shop with me some Saturday!

Enjoy this day!
